A Great Rep is the Whole Community's Voice

Community Experience:

I have served Newtown families since September 1, 2000, the day our family arrived and became homeowners in Newtown.  Eight years in Scouting Leadership, four on the Board of Ethics, four on the Economic Development Commission, a term on the Legislative Council and now, running for my sixth 2-year term as Newtown's State Representative.  All the while, my family and I have logged countless charitable and community service hours, dedicated to the community we love.

At times, it's been a challenge to manage it all, raise a family, work, volunteer, care for elderly parents and find time for ourselves.  I couldn't be there for you without the support of my wife and family.  Thanks to their sharing,  it's such a blessing to be able to do so many things well and to be able to make a difference in the lives of others.  It's a dream come true and, sometimes, I have to pinch myself to wipe that silly grin off my face.  Thank you for allowing me this opportunity.

Taxes & Spending:

I've voted in opposition to every tax increase thrown at us by two Governors and a majority party that's been complicit in driving-up our taxes and escalating the cost of living in Connecticut to a point where people and employers are leaving at a rate of 80-a-day.  I pledge to never increase your taxes because I believe you are already overburdened and I know we can do so much better by streamlining state government, making it more efficient, less costly and able to serve you with a smile. Until all the bureaucratic waste is gone and "Government-Class" special interests no longer profit at your expense, we do not deserve an additional penny of your hard earned income.

I've been elected six-times, in part because I fight every tax, user fee and toll they throw at you and refuse to support the feeding of an insatiable, broken political machine.

A Personal Spin on Tangible, Positive Results & Collaboration

Please take a minute to click on the above "Mitch's Record" tab because there is no chance you'd stick around long enough to read a longhand account of all I have helped to accomplish for NEWTOWN and our state. "Mitch's Record" is in a skimmable, bulleted format and easy to navigate.

Reading through a website like this, you might think: "this guy's full of himself - an egomaniac".  Get to know me and you'll actually see nothing could be further from the truth.

I am not a career politician, just a 27-year marketing person with a lifelong commitment to serving my community.  I'm really uncomfortable mugging for cameras and "tooting my own horn" so, some of my work may not be top-of-mind to you.  But, it's plentiful and a blessing to do good for so many diverse folks and to fight for you.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve.

I was raised to be humble and allow my actions to speak louder than words. That's much more comfortable for me than the "I, I, I" world of politics.  But, if you're looking for accomplishments, my record for all the diverse constituencies of Newtown is prolific and inclusive because I listen and care about what's important to you.  My main political ideology is doing what's right for you, our town as a whole and this beautiful place we call Connecticut.

Leverage Relationships and Knowledge to Make Things Happen:

It's been said I have "clout" in Hartford. Perhaps I do but, if I do, it is something I earned by representing you with honor, integrity and by never, ever breaking a promise.  As your voice in Hartford for ten-years, I am known among other legislators, constitutional office holders, commissioners, staff, constituent groups, non-profits, business associations, lobbyists and even the Capitol Police as a stand-up guy.  I keep my word and anything said to me in confidence, stays that way.

Why is that important?  Because the trust I've built helps me get things done for you. I take legitimate issues and dreams to friends on both sides of the aisle and get them to listen and care about our needs.  It works both ways.  They also count on me.

At the end of the day, while Washington twists in the winds of spite and contempt and opponents may chime about my partisanism, I quietly do your work and accomplish quite a lot without shouting it in anyone's face.

Representing you transcends letters like D & R and, I don't care about anyone's hair color.  Brown, gray, blonde, black, red, white, purple or bald.  It matters not.
